GUNMEN STORM POLICE STATION IN BAYELSA, SET IT ABLAZE
A group of gunmen suspected to be cultists have
attacked the Divisional headquarter of the Nigeria Police Force in Oporoma, the
headquarters of the Southern Ijaw Local Government area of Bayelsa state and
set the station ablaze
The attack on the police station was carried out
after a suspected cultist involved in the rescue mission of another cult member
from the police station was shot dead.
Reports have it that a suspect in custody at the
police station made an attempt to escape but was shot by the officer on duty.
His colleagues then re-mobilised and attacked the station before setting it on
fire.
According to Arch convener of a Non Governmental
Organization, Patriotism Advancement and Community Orientation Network (PACON),
Comrade Aluzu Ebikebuna Augustine, the incident threw the community into
pandemonium
The Bayelsa State Police Command, in a preliminary
report confirming the incident and signed by the spokesman, DSP Asinim Butswat,
said:
Investigation are already on-going and a search party has been deployed to fish out the culprits involved in the act.
