OBASANJO CELEBRATES HIS 81ST BIRTHDAY TODAY






Chief Olusegun Mathew Okikiola Aremu Obasanjo, GCFR, PH.D.  markes today as he celebrates his birthday today 5th March.  Obasanjo Born to his parents Amos Adigun and Ashabi on the 5th of March, 1937 became an elected president of Nigeria from 1997 to 2007 making it the second time to become head of state. He served as a military ruler from 13th February 1976 to 1st October 1979 as a democratically elected president from 29th May 2007. From July 2004 to January 2006, Obasanjo also served as a Chairperson of the African Union.


Chief Olusegun Obasanjo took a retrospective look at his life as he clocked 81 years on Monday and lamented that his parents did not live long enough to reap the fruits of their labour on him despite their sacrifices they  made on him. 

He spoke to a gathering of eminent Nigerians and foreigners who came to felicitate with him on his birthday celebration held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta. 





The Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun while eulogising the former President, described him as a true nationalist who loves Nigeria. He noted that "there is no way the history of Nigeria and the continent of Africa would be written without the prominent mention of Baba." He advised Obasanjo to slow down on his activities, as he was no longer getting younger.

Among those who sent their good will were former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, Senate President Bukola Saraki, former Senate President, David Mark, Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State, former Deputy Governor iyiola Omisore of Ogun State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples democractic Party (PDP).

President Muhammadu Buhari was conspicuously missing among the well-wishers.
