THE WEEKND IS SUING SOMEONE WHO’S TRYING TO TRADEMARK ‘STARBOY’

R&B star, The Weeknd released an album and single titled ‘Starboy’ in 2016. The Weeknd has reportedly filed a lawsuit against an individual who is attempting to trademark the phrase ‘Starboy’, the name of a Weeknd album and single.

The R&B performer (real name Abel Tesfaye) released his third studio album ‘Starboy’ in 2016, which included a Daft Punk collaboration of the same name. ‘Starboy’, the song, reached number one in the US and number two in the UK.

Let’s hope his not referring to Nigeria singer Wizkid who also goes by the name Star boy and the CEO of Star boy Entertainment, In 2013 reported Wizkid established his label imprint Starboy Entertainment. During an interview with Silverbird Television, Wizkid told Yvonne Vixen Ekwere that he planned on signing new acts to the label.

On 17 April 2013, Wizkid signed Maleek Berry to Star boy Entertainment. Wizkidand Maleek Berry’s work credits include “Lagos to Soweto” and “The Matter”, among others

According to TMZ, The Weeknd’s camp has filed a motion against Eymun Talasazan, who is seeking to trademark ‘Starboy’ for use on TV projects and comic books. Documents obtained by TMZ see Talasazan accused of capitalising on Tesfaye’s celebrity and success. Talasazan is also alleged to have trademarked the phrase “Runnin’ Through The 6” after they appeared in Drake’s ‘Know Yourself’ lyrics.

During the Easter holiday, The Weeknd released a surprise new album called ‘My Dear Melancholy’.

The album features two collaborations with French DJ and Kanye West collaborator Gesaffelstein, as well as production credits for Daft Punk’s Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, Skrillex, Frank Dukes, Mike WiLL Made-It, Daheala, Cirkut and Marz.

The Weeknd is also planning on releasing his own Marvel comic book this summer. Tesfaye recently shared more details about the comic, with issue one of The Weeknd Presents: Starboy set to be released on June 13 – featuring Tesfaye as the hero of the piece.
